A good many cemetery listings are taken from headstones rather than the burial registers. Finding someone in these records depends on a headstone having existed and surviving intact to be listed, it was not unusual in the very early days of settlement for families to bury their dead in the most convenient spot. Most Local Family History groups have listings of local area cemeteries.
